The encounter with Red leaves our characters with more questions than answers. Nathan had request for her and Nicci decided to tag along in order to spread the word that freedom is now being granted to all under Richard Rahl’s rule. We begin our journey with Nicci and Nathan visiting the witch woman, Red. As a fan I was very apprehensive, but knowing Nicci was the main focus helped to alleviate some of that anxiety. Goodkind had his work cut out for him because of his decision to expand on his original series. She’s always been a fierce fighter and is beyond brilliant. She has had a long journey from being evil to turning over a new leaf and becoming good. Nicci has always been one of my favorite characters in Goodkind’s books. Nicci who is dubbed “Death’s Mistress” in the original series, finds her way into new territory with the purpose of helping Richard Rahl, the leader of the new and old world, to expand his leadership and beliefs.

This will take her and Nathan to visit the mysterious witch-woman Red, to tangle with the street life of the port city of Tanimura, to fight lethal battles on the high seas, and ultimately to a vast magical confrontation far from home…with the future of life itself, in the Old World and the New, at stake.įull of life and story, this is a sweeping, engaging tale in the grand Goodkind manner.
